Criminal Division to Handle 34 Juveniles Cases

The Criminal Division of the High on Monday (August 10, 2020) commenced another criminal session at Naguru Remand Home.

This came on the heels of a session held last month where 20 matters were concluded. The Division's Deputy Registrar, HW Mary Kaitesi said the July session was successful. "Four cases were dismissed, two were acquitted, four were convicted, and two were transferred, while three cases were adjourned to next session. 

Five cases were closed through reconciliation," she said.

Out of the 20 cases handled, Aggravated Defilement accounted for 14 cases, followed by Aggravated Robbery with four cases. The other cases were one Murder and one Rape case

HW Kaitesi said sexual offences would still dominate the 40-day planned session. "There are 29 Aggravated Defilement cases, two Murder and three Aggravated Robbery cases that have been cause-listed," she said

The Head of Criminal Division, Hon. Justice Wilson John Kwesiga, said most of these cases originate from Mukono, Mpigi, Jinja circuits. 

Similar sessions are due to be conducted in Fort Portal, Arua, Gulu and Kabale.
